Speaking about this song, Charlie says 'Wish I Could' is about wanting to promise somebody the world, knowing that they deserve better than you can give. In other words, it is an admission of guilt for wasting their time but also pays testament to the importance they have in your life. 

 

The literature behind the lyrics says a lot of the things that I've been too afraid to say in person and acts as a draft letter to the one I'm leaving behind.
