Every year, as Malaysia Day approaches, I find myself drawn to moments that remind me of who we are, not just as individuals but as a collective.
And if there's one event that captures that spirit in the most colorful, joyful and unexpected way, it's Keretapi Sarong.

This year, Keretapi Sarong 2025 (KS25) returns with the theme "Serumpun" and let me tell you, it's not just a celebration, it's a movement that you will remember for life.
A flash mob of culture, unity and rhythm that starts on train platforms and ends in hearts.

Keretapi Sarong has grown into a Malaysia Day and with the Serumpun theme, it reminds us that unity is not limited by geography. It is about shared heritage and a common rhythm that connects us as Malaysians and as part of the wider ASEAN family. said Shamsul Bahrin Zainuzzaman, LOCCO Co-Founder.
A Tradition That Moves
I still remember my first Keretapi Sarong experience, I was nervous, unsure if my attire was tied properly, and wondering if I would be the only one dressed like I did.
But the moment I stepped onto the platform, I was greeted by smiles, music and a sea of sarongs in every color imaginable.
I felt like stepping into a living mural of Malaysia.

KS25 is now in its ninth year and it has grown from a quirky flash mob into a full-blown cultural phenomenon.
On 13 September, thousands will gather at 11 starting stations across Klang Valley, from Subang Jaya to Putrajaya Sentral, KL Sentral to Kajang and ride together in a moving celebration of unity.

KS25 is expanding to George Town, Ipoh, Kuantan, Sungai Petani, Pasir Mas, Johor Bahru, and Melaka, with international editions in Berlin and Melbourne on 31 August 2025, followed by London and Sydney on 13 September 2025.

It's surreal to think that Malaysians abroad will be trying their sarongs and hopping on trains in foreign cities, all in sync with us back home.
It's a reminder that no matter where we are, our culture travels with us.

More Than Just A Ride
KS25 isn't just about wearing a sarong and riding a train. It is about what happens along the way.

EPF: Merdeka Daripada Scam
In a clever twist, Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is joining the movement with its #KWSPAntiScam campaign and they are rolling out interactive roadshows with a roving Merdeka Daripada Scam truck filled with awareness messages.
You should give it a try too, the "Too Good? Think Twice" simulation and let's just say, I'm now twice as cautious online.
There will be engaging social media activation with influencers, including Rahmat Fitri Abdullah, the Royal Malaysia Police's Anti-Scam Ambassador.
It's a meaningful addition to the celebration as it serves as a reminder to all of us that unity also means looking out for one another.
