The Opening Ceremony Of Research Collaboration between Universiti Putra Malaysia and PNT Research Sdn Bhd was held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur. The collaboration will delve into the huge potential of the microalgae for preventing oxidative stress.

 Free Radicals And Oxidative Stress

Free radicals are unstable atoms that generated by our body and its will break our body's cells down over time. As our body ages, it will lose its ability to fight the effects of these free radicals. Hence, excessive of the free radicals in our body will caused oxidative stress that will eventually damage our body's cells, proteins and DNA. This will leads to premature ageing and increasingly common due to many factors including ageing, lifestyle change, stress and pollution.

Oxidative stress need to be taken seriously because it has been linked to many chronic diseases such as cancer, diabetics, Alzheimer's diseases and also cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

About Fitoplancton Marino

The mission of Fitoplancton Marino is to research, develop and supply microalgae-based products and functional ingredients that contribute to improve the good health and quality of life to consumers. Fitoplancton Marino developed TetraSOD® to increase physiological response against oxidative stress to aid performance and recovery, especially for athletes and people with an active lifestyle. The company is headquartered in Spain.

TetraSOD® is the most complete and comprehensive ingredient for the Healthy Ageing nutraceutical category. As we age, the production of SOD in our body decreases. TetraSOD® is the most concentrated SOD source in the market. SOD, catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidate (GPx) are the primary protectors of cells against oxidative stress, which is the leading cause of ageing. TetraSOD® also induces redox homeostasis, which is necessary for maintenance of many cellular processes, including oxidation-reduction reactions. TetraSOD® also activates NF-E2 related factor 2 (Nrf2), which is the antioxidant response pathway in the human cells.
