Together, We Celebrate Merdeka and Malaysia Day 2025 At Pavilion Bukit Jalil |
Every Merdeka, I find myself drawn to places that don't just wave the flag but truly celebrate what it means to be Malaysian.
This year, Pavilion Bukit Jalil gave me that moment. Trust me, it wasn't just a moment but it was a full-on experience.
As part of their Together, We Celebrate campaign, Pavilion Bukit Jalil has turned its Centre Court into a vibrant cultural playground with Tinta Merdeka, a showcase of art, fashion, and heritage that is bold, youthful and deeply Malaysian.
Batik Reimagined: Fashion That Tells Our Story
The first thing that caught my eye?
Towering fashion installations with 16 of them, each standing between 6 to 10 feet tall, and these weren't just clothes but they were statements that were created by students from UCSI University's Institute of Creative Arts and Design.

Part of the Towering Fashion Installation - Each Represent Malaysia's 13 States and 3 Federal Territories (From L-R: Selangor [Flag Colour], Kedah [Paddy], Sabah [Rafflesia], Melaka [Stadhuys]) |
Each piece reimagines Malaysia's 13 states and 3 Federal Territories through batik.
It was like walking through a living gallery of Malaysia's soul, from the bold colors of Kelantan to the intricate motifs of Sarawak.
The creativity was off the charts and the pride, unmistakable.
There are 16 standee displays as well, each offering a modern interpretation of state and federal motifs, it was unity in diversity and visualized through fashion.
Batik on Wheels: The Chery ArtWrap Car
And then came the showstopper, a Chery car wrapped entirely in Batik! Yes, a car, guys!
The Batik ArtWrap Chery Car Installation was a fusion of tradition and modernity that I didn't know before.
It was sleek, stylish and proudly Malaysian that proof our heritage isn't just something we wear but it's something we can drive forward too.
Hands-On Heritage: Batik Workshops That Connect
One of the most beautiful parts of Tinta Merdeka was how it invited us to be part of the story.
Local artisans will be on-site with their live batik demonstration and workshops. This will be a great opportunity to give it a try working on the wax and dye to experience the centuries-old traditional artistry of batik up close.
It's not just art, it's a connection to Malaysia's culture.
Creativity with a Conscience: Zero-Waste Booths
For those of us who care about sustainability, the Zero-Waste Creativity Booths by KB Colour, AniKertas x Posterlite were a breath of fresh air.
From recycled frames to up-cycled Batik art, these booths showed how creativity and eco-consciousness can go hand-in-hand.
It's inspiring to see young Malaysians not just preserving tradition, but reimagining it in ways that are kind to the planet.
Fun for All Ages: Games, Gifts & Good Vibes
Tinta Merdeka isn't just for art lovers as this Merdeka campaign is for families, kids, and anyone who wants to celebrate Merdeka in a fun, meaningful way.
There were interactive cultural games like Tic! Tic! Bomb!!!, Smack Deck, and Nab in the Dark, plus artist sharing sessions by DuDu and Merdeka-themed activities for children.
This will definitely be the best way and heartwarming to see kids laughing, learning and engaging with culture in a playful way.
Shopping is even more fun here at Pavilion Bukit Jalil. During the campaign period, there will be rewards for shoppers.
Yes, you read it right!

Beyond art and culture, Pavilion Bukit Jalil's Together. We Celebrate campaign also brings movement into the mix.
In collaboration with Anytime Fitness, Li-Ning, Anta and LAC, the mall offers energizing activities like fitness classes and a 5KM Merdeka Fun Run.
It's a celebration of wellness, unity and community because Merdeka isn't just about looking back, it's about moving forward together.
Celebrate Merdeka, Your Way

Whether you are here to shop, explore or just simply soak in the Merdeka spirit, this is the place to be with your family and friends for the long weekend in conjunction with the Malaysia 68th Independence Day celebration.
For me, Tinta Merdeka is more than just an exhibition. It's a celebration of who we are, our roots, our creativity and unity.
It's about young Malaysians reimagining tradition, families coming together and communities celebrating what makes us uniquely Malaysians.
So if you are looking for a Merdeka experience that's colorful, creative and full of heart, Pavilion Bukit Jalil is calling.
Come for the art, stay for the culture and leave with a deeper love for Malaysia.
