Although the story of current Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim happened back in the earlier years in the 90s, the incident was so impactful that many of us still remember as if it just happen like yesterday. It was a big talk of the town back then even though I was just in primary school.

When I heard about the biographical film to be released nationwide about this very story, I was thrilled about it and immediately accept the invitation to the Premiere Screening of Anwar, The Untold Story that just took place on 8 May 2023 at Dadi Cinema Pavilion KL.

This one-hour 30 minutes (90 mins) film is directed by Indonesia's Viva Westi with local Malaysian actor Farid Kamil Zahari played the lead role as Anwar Ibrahim while famed Indonesian actress Acha Septriasa played the role of Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
In addition to Malaysia, this biopic was also filmed in Indonesia at the cost of RM 10 million.
Synopsis Anwar, The Untold Story
Anwar, The Untold Story revealed the story based on the period of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's life when he was elected and appointed as Finance Minister from 1991, then Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister from 1993 until 1998 when he was fired from the Cabinet that led to the uprising Malaysian Reformasi.
This biopic will highlight his struggle to consistently and decisively oppose corrupt practices like cronyism which was identified as the major cause of corruption that lead to the misappropriation of funds in the country.

A total of 1,870 guests including 500 local and international press members watched the film in 13 specially dedicated halls and Datuk Seri Anwar watched the film with his close family members along with the company of VIPs including those from the entertainment industry, political figures and celebrities.
This is a story that must be told, the battle against corruption continues. Now that I am Prime Minister, I want to save this country and fight corruption and fight them hard. said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to a round of applause.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who held a press conference with the local and international media after watching the film said it was overwhelming to look back at a crucial part of his life but credited the actors and director for keeping it real.
At this point, we were informed that the dialogue in the film might not the 100% accurate but it is based on the true story.

This biopic Original Sound Track, Menjaga Cintamu, is composed by Andi Rianto and written by Sekar Ayu Asmara while Siti Nurhaliza was revealed as the voice behind this OST.

Personal Review For Anwar, The Untold Story
My personal rating will be 4 out of 5. As a person that loves to watch biography movies, it was great although the story started slow it ended with an impactful scene, I would say the most memorable one in the last few minutes.
I personally think that 90 minutes is not sufficient as some of the important characters like Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Nurul Izzah were not fully developed, with just a touch-and-go introduction.
Overall, thumb up to all the casts that successfully play their characters really well and delivered what need to be told in this biopic.
So, guys! You shouldn't miss out on this great biopic and really recommend you to watch this once it is released nationwide on 18 May 2023.
